YUM! Blue Sky Cafe

After a major fail at Black Forest Deli, I head over to Blue Sky Cafe- one of my all time favorite breakfast joints. Breakfast being my favorite meal of the day, I was excited to enjoy it at the fun, eclectic and tastefully different Blue Sky.

Lunch at Blue Sky is amazing, with cheese filled, perfect panini's and garlic kettle chips. But I love a good breakfast. Attempting to eat healthy I delved into the oatmeal part of the menu- "so good, we have our own oatmeal section."

Choosing the Lillie's oats with cranberries, raisins, apples, brown sugar and milk. It was old-fashioned but new and modern at the same time. So good! I also go a fresh fruit cup- not your usual frozen fruit in a cup. Coffee is excellent and cheap, and your mug is always full!

Beat the crowd and peruse the extensive lunch and breakfast menu! Check out the best breakfast in Bethlehem- whole, organic, healthy and fun.

Wahh Wahh no BFD

So I've tried to eat at Black forest deli twice now... twice! And their hours on the website do not match up to their actual hours. Sad to say but I'm giving up.

Heading to Blue Sky Cafe for breakfast since BFD was closed.

Heading to Black Forest Deli!

Going to restaurants that I've never been before is by far the most fun. Black Forest Deli in West Bethlehem is one of the rare spots I haven't dined at yet in Bethlehem and can honestly say that I can't wait to do so.

The deli is owned and run by mother-daughter pair, Milana and Victoria Shparber, on Union and 7th in Bethlehem. Opening in 1997, the deli seems to be a lunch hot-spot in Bethlehem for over a decade. Open from 8 am to 4 pm, the deli is a great place for business or casual lunch or breakfast.

Between breakfast options, paninis, soups and salads it seems like the Black Forest Deli hits close to home with comfort foods from Russia and Ukranian and fresh menu options.

Between good service and great food, it seems that fellow bloggers and food critics love the Black Forest Deli as much as I hope to.

Everyone and their mom loves Potts'!

Sauerkraut, mustard, pickles, onions, ketchup, chili. Such an amazing array of toppings are available at Pott's Doggie Shop in Bethlehem.

Walking into the mom-and-pop hot dog stop is so comforting and has stuck to it's original decor from decades ago. With no indoor seating except a wooden bench, Potts' constantly has a line out the door of people waiting to purchase personalized hot dogs and chocolate milk.

For $1.50 each, these hot dogs are by far the best I've ever had. The melt-in-your-mouth bun, the freshly grilled dog, and the perfect blend of toppings made the line worth waiting in.
Mixing it up a bit, I ordered one dog topped with "everything"- Potts' homemade chili, onions, mustard. And one dog topped with kraut, ketchup, and a pickle- my favorite!

Standing in line with a friend of mine, I observed such a mix of people standing waiting for dogs. Moravian and Lehigh students, local businessmen, and retired couples enjoying their weekly Potts' dogs.

Regardless of your choice of toppings, go to Potts' and enjoy a cheap dog. Take the experience to the fullest and order a chocolate milk, too!

Restaurants I've eaten through so far

So, I've decided to create a Google map showing where exactly I've gone to eat so far. I haven't included the addresses of the restaurants in a few of my previous blog posts so I decided to make the map to help people find these awesome eateries! Check it out.

HOT DIGGITY DOG- on the go to Potts' Doggie Shop

Bethlehem has a handful of hot dog joints that- because they're hot dogs- are awesome. Pete's on Southside Bethlehem, Yocco's at various locations and Potts' in North Bethlehem (and other various locations). All three of these restaurants bask their dogs in their individual sauces, chili's and toppings.

Although I have had all three, my favorite has always been Potts'. I haven't been back in a few years and can't wait to climb the stairs to the mom-and-pop hot dog shop.

Potts' has a secret recipe for their house chili/sauce for their dogs. This, the freshly grilled dog and melt-in-your-mouth bun make them stand out over the other two doggie shops. Staying true to the decades-old decor, Potts' is take-out, cash only restaurant.

According to almost every hot-dog-loving Lehigh Vallyian, the Valley's doggie question is who makes the best dog? Yocco's, Pete's or Potts'?

Potts' is open Monday-Friday 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
Check out Yelp's page on Potts' and see why they're reviewed at 4 out of 5 stars!

The Other Fish definitely is the best alternative sushi in the valley

The Other Fish sushi restaurant on Broad Street in Bethlehem really does stand out against the other sushi restaurants in the Lehigh Valley. Between Tokyo Do, Kome and 24 East- The Other Fish embraces a comfort and welcoming feel that others do not.

Decorated eclectically and embracing the indie side of decor, The Other Fish has a sense of comfort that I felt after immediately walking through the door. Restaurant owner, Matt Reichard says that is the goal of the establishment.
"We want to have a welcoming, friendly restaurant."

With one larger table in the front of the restaurant, bar seating and a few two-tops along the wall, The Other Fish is small, quaint and fills up quickly. Because of the enormous popularity, The Other Fish can't take reservations- first come, first serve.

Being the only sushi restaurant in Bethlehem that has free delivery, The Other Fish is ideal and does a lot of business delivering all over the valley- especially college campuses.

When eating at The Other Fish for lunch, I ordered miso soup and a shrimp tempura roll- a modest choice considering all of the different options on the extensive menu. The interesting rolls, and very different compared to other sushi restaurants, are named out of originality.
"A lot of our rolls are pretty different then anywhere else. Almost every roll on the menu is named after our customers or friends," said Matt.

Jay, the sushi chef, has been said to be the only master sushi chef in the valley.

When comparing his restaurant to competition in the Lehigh Valley, Matt says he is not afraid of what they're doing. The Other Fish is focused on the customer and creating a friendly feel.

"I know almost 80% of our customers by name, they make it unique more than anything else. We're not traditional by any means," said Matt.

I would fully have to agree with the 28-year-old owner. Although it's been there for seven years, I hadn't been to the restaurant since it opened in 2005. Walking in, I started chatting with Matt and employee, Janelle, as if we were old friends.

Although the sushi was amazing, the overall atmosphere and the friendliness and realness of the staff made me fall in love with The Other Fish. Oh, and of course the fact that it's BYOB!

The Other Fish is closed Sunday and Monday but is opened the other days of the  week for lunch and dinner.
